Cats. Playing with Canon Speedlite 420EX
What is good about Canon Speedlite 420EX flash is the adjustable head. It can be turned at the angles: 90 degrees up, 90 - right, and 180 degrees left. The user guide states the following about this feature: "When the flash is aimed directly at the subject, a harsh shadow may appear behind the subject. By bouncing the flash off the ceiling or wall, you can reduce or eliminate the shadow for a more natural looking picture."
If the bounce surface is not a solid white colour, then the picture might have a colour cast based on the bounce surface's colour. This can be exploited to achive some interesting effects. For example the picture above has got the blue cast because light was bounced, guess, from a blue plastic bucket!
There are a couple of more examples below:
|Natural lighting||Flash bounced form a piece of yellow cardboard||Flash bounced form an orange. Yes! The orange the fruit!|
